LOS ANGELES — The San Diego Association of Governments is holding public hearings this month to gauge public sentiment on placing up to a half-cent sales tax on the November ballot to pay for transportation projects.
The regional planning agency is asking the public to share its priorities for the region's future.
SANDAG is contemplating the ballot measure to help pay for its recently adopted regional plan as well as other potential investments such as city projects, water quality improvements, and habitat conservation.
SANDAG's board approved in October the $204 billion San Diego Forward long-range regional plan. The focus was on creating additional transportation choices, improving mobility, helping the economy and to meet the region's environmental goals, including preserving half the region as open space and meeting greenhouse gas reduction targets.
"Our message is simple: We want to hear from you," said County Supervisor and SANDAG Board Chair Ron Roberts. "What do you think needs to be done – in terms of transportation and other regional infrastructure – in order to keep our community moving forward?"
The ballot measure would fund an, as yet undetermined, list of projects and programs.
