Rhode Island Senate Approves Permit Advisory Council

A bill to establish a municipal advisory council on statewide permitting to increase feedback from cities and towns won approval in the Rhode Island Senate with a 37-to-0 vote.

The legislation, sponsored by Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski, D-South Kingstown, calls for the council to consist of five members appointed by the governor. Each member must be an appointed or elected official of a Rhode Island city or town. The purpose of the council would be to develop recommendations to establish a statewide process for electronic plan review, encourage full participation of each city and town in the state.

Reviews of the participating cities and towns would take place every three months until the statewide process is fully established. Co-sponsors include President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, D-Newport.
