Puerto Rico's total employment increased 2% in June compared to a year earlier.
At 1,007,704 in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' household survey, Puerto Rico's employment level was the highest since February 2013. It was up 0.1% from the May 2016 level.
The unemployment rate declined by half a percentage point to 11.2%. This is the lowest rate on the island since May 2008. It is also 5.8% points below the peak unemployment rate of the last 10 years, in May 2010.
The bureau also publishes an employment report based on a survey of employers. This also showed improvements from May in total nonfarm and total private sector employment levels.
