Puerto Rico's unemployment rate declined to 11.6% in August from 11.9% in July.
The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the drop in the rate as one of several positive employment indicators for Puerto Rico.
The unemployment rate in August was 2.2 percentage points below the August 2014 rate.
In August total employment was up 0.4% from July and 1.5% from a year earlier. Total employment has increased on a year-over-year basis for seven consecutive months and on a month-to-month basis for two months.
These statistics are from the bureau's household survey of employment. The bureau also releases an establishment survey of employment. This showed total nonfarm employment in August was up 1.1% since July and 1.2% since August 2014.
The establishment survey also showed that total nonfarm private sector employment was up 1.4% from July and up 1.5% from a year earlier.
All the statistics are seasonally adjusted.
