The University of Michigan's preliminary February consumer sentiment index reading was 81.2, compared to the final January 81.2, the preliminary January 82.5, and the final December 80.4, according to market sources.
The expectations index was 73.0, compared to 71.2 in January, 70.9 earlier in January, and 72.1 in December.
The current conditions index was 94.0, compared to 96.8 in January, 95.2 earlier in January, and 98.6 in December.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 80.7 reading for the main index, 95.9 for current conditions and 71.6 for expectations.
The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.9% in January, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.3%, compared to 3.1% in January.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
