The Philadelphia Area Municipal Analysts Society will explore lessons from the Detroit bankruptcy during its annual holiday party Thursday.

The event slated for 5:30 p.m. at Ballard Spahr in Philadelphia will feature remarks by Nathan Bomey, a former Detroit Free Press reporter who covered the 2013 bankruptcy of Michigan's largest city. Bomey, who now reports for USA Today, authored the 2016 book "Detroit Resurrected: To Bankruptcy and Back", which covers the Chapter 9 filing, negotiations and near-term results.

"Detroit Resurrected is one of the most important books of 2016 and one of the most important books in recent memory for the municipal analyst community and public finance universe," said Steve Winterstein, PhAMAS secretary and a chief muni strategist at Wilmington Trust. "The follow-up interviews Nathan had with those connected to Detroit provide some of the most valuable content I have read about Chapter 9."

Thursday's PhAMAS holiday party is free for members and non-members. Assured Guaranty is the event's sponsor. To RSVP, email Catharine.Lombardi@pnc.com.
