Pennsylvania Municipal League Chief Retires

John A. (Jack) Garner Jr. has retired as executive director of the Pennsylvania Municipal League after 35 years of service, the organization announced at its 114th annual convention in State College, Pa., late Thursday.

Rick Schuettler will succeed him, effective immediately.

Garner was executive director for 30 years. The league's board of directors honored him with the title of executive director emeritus. As part of a transition process, he will be available to the organization in a consulting capacity for the rest of the year.

Schuettler has been serving as the league's deputy executive director since 2004, and has been with the association since 2001, when he started as business administrator and assistant to the executive director.

The league also elected Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski president. Philadelphia's Michael Nutter and his Lancaster mayoral counterpart, Rick Gray, are first and second vice presidents, respectively.
