Obituary: Terrell Ross

Terrell Ross, co-founder of Cincinnati-based investment-banking firm Ross, Sinclaire & Associates LLC, died Friday of cancer. He was 59.

Mr. Ross is survived by his wife, Diana, and daughters, Carrie and Amanda. Amanda is a financial adviser at the firm her father co-founded.

Mr. Ross was diagnosed about six weeks ago and sought counsel from specialists in Lexington, Ky., New York, and Boston, but “it just wasn’t meant to be,” said Murray Sinclaire Jr., who founded the firm with Mr. Ross.

“He was my partner and friend for the past 20 years, and an innovative banker when it came to public finance, particularly in Kentucky … he was simply par excellence,” Mr. Sinclaire said.

Mr. Ross held a degree in mathematics from Morehead State University and ran the firm’s public finance division, specializing in advanced and current refundings. Mr. Ross grew up in Fleming County in eastern Kentucky, Mr. Sinclaire said.

Mr. Sinclaire said Mr. Ross was “just one of those guys that was great with numbers.”

“He used to carry around this ‘lunch-box’ computer with him — and this is before everyone had a computer — and he had this big HP calculator that he was always using,” Mr. Sinclaire said.

“I’ve been here 15 years, and Terrell was a very special, very caring, and very brilliant banker,” said Alex Stillpass, a partner with the firm. “He was extremely dedicated to his family, his clients and this firm, and we’re certainly going to try and carry the torch in his honor.”

Funeral services for Mr. Ross are scheduled for 3 p.m. tomorrow at Whitehall Funeral Home in Lexington, Ky.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Private burial will be Thursday at Elizaville Cemetery in Flemingsburg, Ky.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cancer Care Club; P.O. Box 189; Flemingsburg, KY 41041.
