New York State is receiving $75 million in grants to support 45 drinking water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday.
The funding is part of the New York State Water Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2015, which was established as part of the fiscal 2016 budget. The legislation provides $200 million in grants over a three-year cycle.
"New York invests more to protect water-quality and strengthen water infrastructure than any state in the nation," said Cuomo in a statement.
"These grants will make it easier for localities to make the critical upgrades that ensure their water systems continue to provide New Yorkers with safe, high-quality water," the governor said.
"This announcement of water infrastructure funding is a significant investment in the future success of counties and municipalities throughout the state," said New York State Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie. "These projects will improve essential systems and alleviate a significant tax burden residents would face if not for the states investment."
