As part of the firm's bankruptcy and creditors' rights area, Kimball will focus on the representation of mutual funds, other institutional investors, and indenture trustees in connection with troubled corporate and municipal bond financings.
The spokesman said that Kimball was an addition to the existing team.
Prior to joining Akerman Senterfitt, Kimball was a vice president of high-yield investments at Columbia Management Group Inc., the mutual fund and investment division of FleetBoston Financial Corp.
At Columbia, he oversaw defaulted and high-risk municipal investments, including the direction of outside counsel in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, foreclosure, receivership, litigation, and restructuring matters.
Kimball was a partner for five years at the law firm of Nabors, Giblin & Nickerson before joining Columbia. He also taught as an adjunct professor of law at Northeastern University School of Law. Kimball received his law degree from Boston College.
Akerman Senterfitt has eight offices in Florida and more than 360 attorneys, according to the firm's spokesman.
