Tyeryar most recently served as deputy secretary and CFO for the Virginia Department of Transportation. There, he helped implement a number of funding reforms and played a role in passing Virginia's first comprehensive transportation funding plan in 2013.

Tyeryar also established Virginia's office of Public Private Partnerships. He previously worked as budget director and accounting division manager for Prince William County, Va.

"I'm proud to have David join the team," said NCDOT Secretary Tony Tata. "His experience and skills will serve our citizens well, and help us to expand economic opportunities."

Tata also said Tyeryar's strategic and innovative financial planning, oversight, and leadership experience will be critical as the department continues to look for new ways to meet growing transportation infrastructure demands, while facing a continuing decline in traditional revenue sources.

He started the job April 21.

Tyeryar replaces Mark Foster. No information was provided about his departure.
