Muni analyst Doug Nelson joins Hilltop in Southern California

Doug Nelson, who has 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, has been hired by Hilltop Securities Inc. to work in the firm's Encino office in Southern California.

Nelson will work in the firm's Fixed Income Capital Markets division as a municipal credit analyst.

He joins Hilltop from Waddell & Reed where he managed investment portfolios and municipal and corporate high-yield and investment grade credits for all public finance sectors. He has also served as portfolio manager with Janus Capital Group and vice president, public finance with George K. Baum & Co.

Hilltop has continued its growth strategy even amid the pandemic. The firm told The Bond Buyer in July that it planned to continue to add people across the country.

Nelson received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in finance from the University of Colorado. Nelson is also a chartered financial analyst.
