Milwaukee ISM Index Slips to 59 in August From 66 in July

NEW YORK – The seasonally adjusted Milwaukee Index dropped to 59 in August from 66 in July, according to the Institute for Supply Management-Milwaukee.

The index was 56 in August 2009.

New orders received slid to 66 from 69, production rose to 74 from 69, backlog decreased to 57 from 58, and supplier lead times inched up to 32 from 29.

Blue collar employment dipped to 63 from 65, while white collar employment grew to 60 from 56. Inventory levels slumped to 57 from 66, while capital equipment purchases surged to 68 from 51.

The prices paid index rose to 58 from 55.
