Meetings Set for Retirees

Rhode Island General Treasurer Gina Raimondo scheduled regional meetings designed to educate public employees about how the Rhode Island Retirement Security Act of 2011 will affect their retirement eligibility and pension benefits, as well as extended hours for retirement counselors.

The new law, which the state legislature passed last year, fully takes effect on July 1.

Meetings are scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the following locations by group:

State employees, Wednesday at Cranston High School East; teachers, March 20 at Martin Middle School, East Providence; MERS (Municipal Employees Retirement System) general employees, April 5, Council Chambers, South Kingstown Town Hall; and MERS police and fire, April 19, Smithfield High School.
