Malloy OKs $95M for Connecticut Colleges

Pursuant to state statute, Gov. Dannel Malloy has approved $95 million in bond funding for Connecticut State University System 2020 projects during fiscal 2014.

CSUS 2020 is a long-term capital infrastructure investment plan which began in fiscal 2009. It includes funds for infrastructure improvements, mechanical and electrical upgrades, renovation and equipment, code compliance, and new construction that will replace antiquated or inadequate facilities.

"Connecticut businesses must have the talent to compete globally, and our state university system is critical for training our future workforce," said Malloy.

Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic will receive $71.6 million, or about three-fourths of the money, for construction of a fine arts instructional center.

Southern Connecticut in New Haven, Central Connecticut in New Britain and Western Connecticut in Danbury will receive lesser amounts.

The allocation includes $5 million systemwide for alterations and improvements to auxiliary service projects.
