A state grand jury Wednesday announced felony indictments against Nevada Lieut. Gov. Brian Krolicki for actions taken when he was the state treasurer, the Associated Press reported.
The indictments, which include four counts against Krolicki and two against his former chief of staff, Kathryn Besser, appear to grow out of a 2007 audit by the state’s Legislative Counsel Bureau. It found that money earned by the state government in the Nevada College Savings Program was not properly handled, resulting in improper contract approvals and expenditure levels higher than those authorized by the Legislature. The program is a tax-advantaged Section 529 savings program.
