KeyBanc's new hire to lead higher ed and not-for-profit team

KeyBanc Capital Markets has added a new managing director in San Francisco.

Ila Afsharipour joins the bank as managing director and head of the Higher Education and Not-for-Profit Finance Group. In addition to leading the coverage team providing investment banking and capital markets services for the higher education and not-for-profit business, he will also have responsibilities across multiple specialty sectors.

Ila Afsharipour was hired in 2019 to lead KeyBanc's higher ed and not-for-profit sectors in San Francisco.

He will be based in San Francisco and report to Zach Kau, co-head of the Healthcare Public Finance Group.

Afsharipour has more than 15 years of experience cultivating client relationships, structuring complex financial transactions, establishing and growing new national business practices, and managing coverage teams across multiple sectors including higher education, not-for-profit, healthcare and housing finance, according to the company.

He comes over from U.S. Bancorp, where he had been managing director and head of the Healthcare, Higher Education and Not-for-Profit Business since 2010. Prior to that, he worked as a vice president in public finance and commercial banking for Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Afsharipour’s hire bolsters the bank’s efforts to strategically grow its public finance business, said Derek Chauvette, head of public sector and public finance for KeyBanc.

“Ila brings deep knowledge of the Higher-Ed and Not-for-Profit, Healthcare and Housing Finance sectors,” Chauvette said. “We see tremendous opportunities to continue deepening our presence in these areas with Ila on our platform.”

Afsharipour earned his bachelor of science degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He has served on the board and advisory committees for several not-for-profit organizations.
