New orders for manufactured goods gained 1.1% in June, after dropping a revised 0.6% in May, originally reported as a 0.5% decrease, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected a 0.6% increase in June orders.
Excluding transportation, new orders increased 1.1% in June, after falling a revised 0.2% the previous month, first reported as a 0.1% slip. Excluding defense, orders grew 1.0%, after a flat reading in May.
Durable goods orders rose 1.7% after a 0.9% decrease in May, while nondurable goods orders grew 0.6% after a 0.2% slide in May.
