Jobless Claims Up 16,000 To 404,000 in June 28 Week

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits were up 16,000 to 404,000 in the week ended June 28, from the upwardly revised 388,000 level in the June 21 week, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

Claims for the week ended June 21 were originally reported as 384,000.

Economists polled by IFR Markets expected 385,000 claims in the week.

The four-week moving average for initial claims was 390,500, up 10,250.

Continuing claims for the June 21 week were down 19,000 to 3,116,000.
