Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said it raised its rating to AA from AA-minus on Jackson County, Wis.' existing general obligation debt.
At the same time, Standard & Poor's assigned its AA long-term rating to the county's series 2015 GO promissory notes. The outlook is stable.
"The raised rating reflects our view of the county's maintenance of very strong reserves, liquidity, and strong performance results," said Standard & Poor's credit analyst Andrew Truckenmiller. "The rating further reflects our view of the county's strong management."
The series 2015 bond proceeds will be used to finance the construction and equipping of an addition to the courthouse for a courtroom and offices.
The 993-square-mile county is in western Wisconsin, where it serves an estimated population of 20,735. The county contains 27 municipalities, including the county seat of Black River Falls. Ho-Chunk Nation, a federally recognized Native American tribe, has its headquarters in Black River Falls. The tribe has a major presence in the county; the tribe employs 520 in its government and 401 at its casino.
