The Institute for Supply Management’s non-manufacturing business activity composite index was 55.4 in May, unchanged from April, on a seasonally adjusted basis, the group said yesterday.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had expected a 55.7 level.
The prices paid index, closely watched for signs of inflation, slid to 60.6 from 64.7.
"What the market's really trying to figure out is what that Warsh regime is going to mean," said Tom Kozlik of HilltopSecurities. "Folks are really trying to position their mindsets, position their portfolios."
The Wall Street banks targeted in the rate-rigging lawsuit wanted the top court to overturn class certification.
