Elgin-based Sherman Hospital last week unveiled the design plans for its proposed new $280 million hospital to replace its existing facility in the growing city to the far northwest of Chicago.
Nearby Provena St. Joseph Hospital is expected to fight the project. The new Sherman Hospital would be located in an area now served by Provena, which has begun a $100 million bond-financed project. Sherman officials believe both hospitals can coexist in the rapidly growing area.
The Sherman plan was submitted last month to the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, which must approve new construction projects proposed by hospitals.
