ICE hires BVAL’s Pierce Lord as a director of fixed income analytics

Intercontinental Exchange Inc. has hired Pierce Lord from Bloomberg LP’s BVAL to focus on developing ICE's analytics offering, as it ramps up its efforts in evaluating fixed income markets. The move brings another high-profile figure into a changing municipal benchmarking universe.

Lord will be director of fixed income analytics at ICE, which is also the owner of the New York Stock Exchange.

He previously was global head of corporate, government and municipal valuation at Bloomberg’s BVAL.

“As we continue to expand our solutions into the front office, we’re excited to add to our already strong team with the addition of Pierce Lord to our analytics leadership,” Lynn Martin, president and COO of ICE Data Services, said in a statement.

Lord said he was looking forward to the move after taking some time off. He left BVAL on Aug. 1.

"In a very short period of time, ICE has become a key player in providing evaluations and analytics for the fixed income markets,” Lord said. “Recent product launches, including a new municipal index and yield curve, demonstrate the exciting advances ICE is making in fixed income. I look forward to joining the team and helping advance this effort."

ICE Data Services introduced its municipal bond benchmark curve, the ICE US Broad Municipal Index, in mid-June.

ICE also earlier this month acquired several fixed income volatility indices from Bank of America, including the Merrill Lynch Option Volatility Estimate (MOVE) index.

Lord starts at ICE on Monday, Aug. 26. He will report to Aram Flores, Vice President of Fixed Income Portfolio Analytics at ICE Data Services.

Lord spent nine years with Bloomberg LP in various valuation roles. Before that he was founder and portfolio manager of Lord Capital Management LLC. He was a convertible bond trader/analyst at Drake Management and got his start as an investment banking analyst at UBS.

Lord holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from Colgate University. Lord is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
