Feds Eye Incinerator Crisis

Capital city Harrisburg’s incinerator debt crisis is on the radar of federal investigators, the Patriot-News reported.

“We have been keeping an eye on the incinerator situation for some time,” Peter Smith, the top prosecutor for U.S. Middle District Court, told the newspaper.

Harrisburg’s City Council last week unanimously requested the U.S. Justice Department to investigate the bond transactions that have largely put the city $310 million in debt and under state receivership. The council expects to hand-deliver a letter to Smith’s office this week.
