Fed Survey Shows Consumers Fear Job Loss Less

Consumers are less afraid of losing their jobs, and their view of inflation expectations held steady in December, with buyers expecting around 3.0% inflation over the course of one year and three years, according to the Survey of Consumer Expectations, released by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on Monday.

In December 14.5% of respondents said they feared losing their jobs, off nearly a percentage point from November, and the lowest level since July 2013.

Regarding inflation, while the median expectations were mostly steady, for one-year expectations the bottom 25% see inflation at 1%, off from 1.5% in November, while at the top, the expectation fell to 5.7% from 6%.

Consumers see gas price growth falling to 1.6%.

Median home price increases dipped to a projection of 3.6%.

Consumers see earnings rising 2.5% in the year, down from 2.7% in the prior month's survey.
