Esther George to Replace Hoenig as K.C. Fed Chief

Esther George, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s first vice president and chief operating officer, will replace outgoing president and chief executive officer Thomas M. Hoenig on Oct. 1.

Hoenig is leaving because he will reach 65, the Fed’s mandatory retirement age for presidents.

George, 53, joined the bank in 1982 and served as a commissioned bank examiner until 1995, when she was named to the official staff.

“She has held numerous leadership positions at the bank within its research support, public affairs, and human resources functions,” the bank said in a statement.
