Enid Splits on Debt, OKs Tax

Voters in Enid last week turned down a $39 million bond issue for street improvements, narrowly approved a $7 million bond for bridge work, and overwhelmingly approved a 25-year extension of a 1% sales tax to finance construction of a wastewater treatment plant and renovations to the downtown library.

The bond issue for street repairs failed with 68% opposed. The bridge bonds passed with 58% approval, and 68% of the voters approved extending until 2042 the sales tax that was to expire in 2017.
