Ehlers & Associates Nabs Bruce Kimmel From Rival and Neighbor Springsted Inc.

CHICAGO - The Minnesota-based independent financial advisory firm Ehlers & Associates Inc. has added Bruce Kimmel from competitor Springsted Inc. to its cadre of municipal advisers.

Kimmel joined the firm last month after 12 years at Springsted, based in neighboring St. Paul. Kimmel joins a staff of about 17 financial advisers in the firm's Roseville headquarters. The firm employs a total of about 30 professional advisers in its three offices in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Kimmel will work with the firm's city, county, and regional governmental clients on public finance issues and community development projects. At Springsted, he focused on financing public utility infrastructure and other capital projects. He also has worked on negotiations involving public participation in private housing and other economic development projects. Kimmel joined the firm as a senior financial adviser. At Springsted his title was vice president.

Ehlers ranked second among FAs in Minnesota with 80 deals worth $481 million for the first half of the year, compared to Springsted at fourth with 60 deals worth $441 million. Ehlers ranked fourth in Wisconsin compared to Springsted at seventh, and in Illinois Ehlers ranked 12th in Illinois while Springsted did not rank in the top 20.

In the Midwest, Ehlers ranked eighth with 167 deals worth $808 million compared to Springsted at 11th with 77 deals worth $618 million, according to Thomson Reuters. Last year, Ehlers ranked seventh among all FAs in the Midwest and sixth for 2006. Springsted ranked second in the Midwest last year compared to a third-place finish for 2006.

Kimmel holds a masters in public policy from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and is a certified independent public finance Adviser.
