The Federal Open Market Committee holds the first of a two-day meeting.

The Treasury auctions $27 billion of year bills and $43 billion of two-year notes. The 52-week bills are dated Sept. 24 and due Sept. 23, 2010, and the two-year notes are dated Sept. 30 and due Sept. 30, 2011.

The Treasury auctions $40 billion five-year notes. The notes are dated Sept. 30 and due Sept. 30, 2014.

Initial jobless claims for the week ending Sept. 19 are released by the Labor Department.

Existing home sales figures for August are issued by the National Association of Realtors.

The Treasury auctions $29 billion seven-year notes. The notes are dated Sept. 30 and are due Sept. 30, 2016.

Durable goods figures for August are released by the Commerce Department.

New home sales figures for August are released by the Commerce Department.

Final consumer sentiment figures for September are released by the University of Michigan.
