Consumer Sentiment Up From December

The University of Michigan’s final January consumer sentiment index reading was 61.2 compared to the preliminary January 61.9 and the final December 60.1 readings, according to market sources.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 61.9 reading for the index.

The expectations index was 57.8, compared to 57.2 earlier in the month, and 54.0 last month. The current conditions index was 66.5, compared to 69.2 earlier in January and 69.5 in December.
