The University of Michigan’s final September consumer sentiment index reading was 59.4, compared to the preliminary September 57.8, the final August 55.7, the preliminary August 54.9, and the final July 63.7, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 49.4, compared to 47.4 in August, 45.7 earlier in August, and 56.0 in July.
