The University of Michigan’s final May consumer sentiment index reading was 59.8 compared to 59.5 earlier this month and the final April 62.6 reading, market sources said Friday.

Economists polled by IFR Markets had predicted a 59.5 reading for the index.

The expectations index was 51.1 compared to 51.7 earlier this month and 53.3 last month.

The current conditions index was 73.3, compared to 71.7 earlier this month and 77.0 last month.
