Consumer credit increased by $28.9 billion in September to $3.499 trillion, the Federal Reserve reported Friday.
In August, consumer credit rose an unrevised $16.0 billion to $3.470 trillion.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters predicted a $17.8 billion increase in the month.
Revolving credit outstanding in September edged up to $925.2 billion from $918.5 billion the previous month.
Non-revolving credit rose to $2.574 trillion from $2.551 trillion.
Revolving credit includes credit card debt. Non-revolving debt includes automobile loans, loans for mobile homes, education, boats, trailers, or vacations.
