California Public Employees’ Retirement System chief executive officer Fred Buenrostro has set June 30 as his retirement date.

Friday’s announcement came after it was revealed earlier last week that Buenrostro was planning to depart the nation’s largest public employee pension system after six years at the helm.

CalPERS Board of Administration president Rob Feckner said the board will discuss naming an interim CEO at the next full board meeting Thursday.

The pension system has $244 billion in assets.
