The new hires are associates Janice Day and Michael Kleinberg, and analyst Katherine Perkins.

Day has previously worked for Salomon Smith Barney as an equity research associate, specializing in multinational mining firms, and before that, was an equity analyst covering the capital equipment industry for Prudential Securities.

Kleinberg came to KNN from Denver-based investment bank Daniels & Associates LP, where he managed private equity transactions in the United States, Europe, and emerging markets in Latin America and Eastern Europe. He has also done consulting work through his own firm.

Perkins joined the firm after graduating this year from the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. She had worked at KNN as an intern.

The new hires bring KNN’s roster to 26 professionals, managing director John O’Sullivan said.

“We are very pleased to have been able to attract these exceptional individuals,” he said in a statement. “Their skills, experience, and commitment to public finance will enhance our ability to provide quality services to our clients.”

The Oakland-based firm, a division of Zions First National Bank, specializes in California public finance. KNN says its schools practice historically closes more transactions for public schools in California than any other financial advisory firm.

In the first six months of 2005, Thomson Financial data credited the firm with 45 issues valued at $2.6 billion, all in California. That volume placed the firm in third place in rankings of California FAs, and seventh nationwide.
