Bye New Connecticut Senate Appropriations Chair

Beth Bye, D-West Hartford, will succeed Toni Harp as Senate chair of the appropriations committee.

Harp resigned after her election as New Haven's mayor. Longtime Mayor John DeStefano did not seek re-election.

"Beth brings passion and an incredible work ethic to the position," said Senate President Donald Williams Jr., D-Brooklyn, who made the appointment. "She's also committed to a collaborative approach. Succeeding Toni Harp is no easy task but I know that Beth will do a terrific job."

"The state budget is really a statement of public policy priorities," said Bye.

Additional revised committee assignments will be announced later.

Bye was elected to the Senate in 2010. Her 5th District includes West Hartford, Bloomfield, Burlington and Farmington.
