BP Gins Up More Money

BP will provide an additional $218 million for Louisiana’s efforts to recover from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The funding includes $140 million for coastal restoration and protection, $48 million for seafood safety and testing efforts, and $30 million for tourism.

“We’re not declaring victory, but today is a great step forward for our state,” Gov. Bobby Jindal said during a news conference in New Orleans. BP had earlier given $20 million to Florida for seafood testing.

Jindal said the $218 million is part of what should be “billions of dollars” of compensation for Louisiana’s restoration efforts from BP and other parties responsible for the oil spill.
