Bond Counsel: Katten Muchin Zavis, Rosenman & Colin Merge to Create 600-Member Law Firm

CHICAGO - Chicago's Katten Muchin Zavis and New York City's Rosenman & Colin announced their merger Wednesday.

The new law firm is called Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman, and it will become the 40th largest firm in the country with 600 attorneys, according to a company statement.

The combined firm will have offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Charlotte, N.C., Newark, N.J., Palo Alto, Calif., and elsewhere around the country. Katten Muchin Zavis had about 400 attorneys, while Rosenman & Colin had 200 lawyers before the merger, according to a spokeswoman.

Katten Muchin Zavis has public finance practices in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C. The firm ranked 10th among bond counsel in the Midwest region in 2001 with 58 issues, according to Thomson Financial Securities Data.

The 60 practice areas of the combined firm include public finance, corporate, litigation, financial services, real estate finance and development, intellectual property, private client services, and media/entertainment practices.

"We believe we've found the ideal partner, one that has the same entrepreneurial spirit and professional commitment that we do," said Vincent A. F. Sergi, previously with Katten and now national managing partner of the combined firm, in a company statement.

Rosenman had no public finance practice prior to the merger.
