Bond Buyer Yield Indexes Again Rise

The weekly average yield to maturity of the Bond Buyer Municipal Bond Index, which is based on 40 long-term bond prices, increased four basis points this week, to 5.15% for the week ending Aug. 15, 2013. This is the highest weekly average for the yield to maturity since the week ended July 28, 2011 (107 weeks ago), when it was 5.24%.

The 20-Bond GO Index of 20-year general obligation yields increased seven basis points this week, to 4.80%. This is the highest level for the index since April 28, 2011 (120 weeks ago), when it was 4.86%.

The 11-Bond GO Index of higher-grade 20-year GO yields gained eight basis points this week, to 4.57%, which is its highest level since April 28, 2011 (120 weeks ago), when it was 4.59%.

The Bond Buyer's Revenue Bond Index, which measures 30-year revenue bond yields, rose 13 basis points this week, to 5.18%. It is now at its highest level since Aug. 4, 2011 (106 weeks ago), when it was 5.21%.

The yield on the U.S. Treasury's 10-year note increased 18 basis points this week, to 2.77%, which is its highest level since July 28, 2011 (107 weeks ago), when it was 2.96%.

The yield on the Treasury's 30-year bond gained 14 basis points this week, to 3.81%. This is the highest the yield has been since July 28, 2011 (107 weeks ago), when it was 4.26%.
