Beige Book: Expansion Continued

Economic expansion continued and the future outlook was termed "optimistic" in "a number of districts," according to the Beige Book, released Wednesday by the Federal Reserve.

Consumer spending and tourism improved in most regions, while "employment gains were widespread."

"Some improvement" was seen in business spending, while manufacturing "strengthened" in most of the nation.

"Construction and real estate activity expanded overall, but at a pace that varied by sector and by District," the Fed said. "Lending typically held steady or increased."

"Overall price and wage inflation remained subdued."
