"To continue to grow Anchorage's economy, we must invest in basic facilities like roads, improved drainage, and public safety," Begich said. "This year's bond proposal is leaner than usual, but emphasizes the basics we need to grow our city."

The plan would include $44.5 million for roads and drainage, Begich said.

The remainder includes $1.9 million for mass transit, primarily to provide a required match to federal funds for the People Mover bus system. The mayor is also requesting $480,000 for three ambulances.

The bond package is scheduled to go before the Assembly Feb. 15. If approved, it would go to voters on April 5.
