Academy Securities has hired Jon Welch as director of public finance as it expands its business in the California municipal bond market, the firm announced on Friday.
Welch will be based in the San Diego office.
“Jon is another example of Academy building its presence in the municipal market. In addition, California is very important to Academy given their corporate offices are located in San Diego,” said Rick Kolman, head of the municipal securities group at Academy. “We have made great strides underwriting a wide variety of California-related issuers over the last few years and Jon’s in-depth expertise will play a critical role in our continued growth.”
Welch has almost 12 years of experience as both an issuer and a banker. He has worked on more than $55 billion of transactions for issuers in the West, and has covered a wide variety of general infrastructure credits and worked on a full suite of debt products, Academy said.
Welch has experience in both the private and public sector. Prior to joining Academy, he worked at U.S. Bank for the past six years as a senior banker in its San Francisco office. He had previously worked at Jefferies & Co. for two years and before that at the California State Treasurer's office.
