Orrick keeps top spot, while rest of top 10 shuffle

The top bond counsel firms combined for a total of $341.96 billion in 9,065 transactions during the first three quarters of 2021, up from the $329.89 billion in 8,503 deals over the same period in 2020.

Only one firm remained in the same spot they were at this point last year, while the rest of the rankings saw big shifts from a year prior.

Orrick remains on top

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP led all bond counsel, extending its lead from this time last year.

The firm worked on $42.85 billion in 428 deals for a market share of 12.5%, compared to $42.04 billion in 390 issues and 12.7% share of the market in the first three quarters of 2021.

Kutak Rock LLP climbed to $18.64 billion in 377 deals, or a 5.5% market share, from $13.25 million in 352 deals, or a 4% market share, jumping to second place from fifth place at this time last year.

Hawkins moves up one

Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP bumped up a spot from where it was at this time in 2020, as year-to-date the firm has accounted for $14.78 billion in 261 for a 4.3% market share. That compares to $14.19 billion in 234 deals for a 4.3% market share in 2020.

Norton falls one spot

Norton Rose Fulbright fell a spot, counseling $13.38 billion in 248 deals, or a 3.9% market share, during the first nine months of 2021, compared to $17.17 billion in 295 deals, or a 5.2% market share, over the same period in 2020.

Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth rounds out the top five with $11.49 billion in 184 deals for a 3.4% market share during the first three quarters of 2021, compared to $8.71 billion in 166 deals for a 2.6% market share in 2020.

Rounding out the top 10 are: McCall Parkhurst & Horton LLP, falling from second to sixth with $11.24 billion in 337 deals during the first three quarters; Nixon Peabody LLP followed with a total of $9.91 billion in 92 deals; Gilmore & Bell PC was next with $8.83 billion in 452 deals; Chapman and Cutler LLP came after with $7.6 billion in 254 deals; and Butler Snow LLP rounded out the top 10 with $6.61 billion in 120 deals.
