U.S. job openings unexpectedly cooled in October from a record a month earlier, consistent with a steady job market, Labor Department data showed Monday.
The number of positions waiting to be filled fell by 181,000 to 6 million, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS.
Analysts had forecast 6.14 million openings, and the prior month’s reading was revised up to 6.18 million.
