Las Cruces Public Schools proposes $50M bond question

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Las Cruces Public Schools officials are proposing a $50 million general obligation bond that would go before voters in February 2018.

LCPS Deputy Superintendent for Operations Gabe Jacquez on Tuesday discussed several preliminary recommendations that the 2018 bond committee has proposed be funded by the bond revenues.

The recommendations included a broad range of projects from heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to classroom additions and major renovations. Jacquez also mentioned that prices for construction and construction supplies materials are expected to increase, due in part to the abundance of recent natural disasters across the country.

General obligation bonds passed by the voters result in a tax assessment on properties. The bonds are then repaid with property tax revenues.
