John Burnett, who lost the general election for New York City comptroller last year, joined the New York Republican State Committee as a strategic advisor.

Burnett, who lost the comptroller's race to Democrat Scott Stringer, is a financial consultant and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Urban Resource Institute.

He worked for 23 years on Wall Street, overseeing advisors and global wealth portfolio managers at Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Citigroup and McGraw Hill, among other firms. He ran for comptroller on the Republican and Conservative tickets.

"His depth of knowledge, years of private sector experience and the time he spent as a citywide candidate will all prove invaluable assets as we steer the New York Republican Party into the future," NYGOP Chairman Ed Cox said in a statement.
