January Factory Orders Slip 0.2%; Ex-Transportation Drop 1.8%

New orders for manufactured goods declined 0.2% in January, after falling a revised 3.5% in December, first reported as a 3.4% decline, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected a 0.3% rise in January orders.

Excluding transportation, new orders fell 1.8%, after a 2.3% drop the previous month. Excluding defense, orders dropped 0.2%, after a 3.3% slide in December.

Durable goods orders grew 2.8% after a 3.7% decrease in December, while nondurable goods orders were off 3.1% after a 3.3% drop in December.
