Final October U. of Mich. Index at 86.9 vs. 84.6 in September

The University of Michigan's final October consumer sentiment index reading was 86.9, compared to the preliminary October 86.4 and the final September 84.6, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 79.6, compared to the preliminary October 78.4 and the final September 75.4.

The current conditions index was 98.3, compared to the preliminary October 98.9 and the final September 98.9.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 86.4 reading for the main index, 98.9 for current conditions, and 78.2 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.8% in September, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.8% in September.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
