Final January U. of Mich. Index at 98.1 vs. 93.6 in December

The University of Michigan's final January consumer sentiment index reading was 98.1, compared to the preliminary January 98.2, and the final December 93.6, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 91.0, compared to the preliminary January 91.6, and the final December 86.4.

The current conditions index was 109.3, compared to the preliminary January 108.3, and the final December 104.8.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 98.2 reading for the main index, 108.0 for current conditions, and 91.5 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.8% in December, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.5%, compared to 2.8% in December.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
