Actor Baldwin to Raise Funds for Central Falls

Actor Alec Baldwin will visit Rhode Island on June 7 to help raise money for the Adams Memorial Library in formerly bankrupt Central Falls.

Mayor James Diossa confirmed the "Baldwin for Books" visit.

Baldwin will visit the library and Fete, a boutique live music venue in the Olneyville section of Providence, for fundraisers expected to raise up to $125,000 for the library.

According to an announcement on the Adams library website, Baldwin and others will present dramatic interpretations of famous literature at Fete. Limited tickets are available for $45 at www.baldwinforbooks.ticketbud.com. Ticket holders can enter into a raffle for a chance to read a dialogue on stage with Baldwin.

Baldwin, whose credits include "Beetlejuice," "The Hunt for Red October," "The Departed" and "The Cooler," has contributed $15,000 to the Adams library since the city filed for bankruptcy August 2011, according to the Providence Journal. He also wrote a check for $2,500 to support the Central Falls High School chess club.

The 19,000-population city, 10 miles north of Providence, exited Chapter 9 protection in September 2012.
